An oratorio about the Willie and Martin Handcart Companies. Seeking an escape from persecution, the Mormon pioneers headed further west into a wild, untamed, and unforgiving prairie. The lyrics were inspired by the records that they kept; journal entries that tell of the struggles that they faced; hunger, thirst, fatigue, extreme temperatures, wild animals, disease, even death. However, these records also contain many testimonies of faith and tender mercies, even miracles.
